The Tele-Friend Program

f277c122-1.jpg

The Tele-Friend Program is a collaborative initiative in partnership with Northeastern University, designed to reduce isolation and strengthen social connection through regular, friendly phone conversations.

Participants are paired with a trained university student volunteer for a weekly phone call of about 30 minutes, offering companionship, emotional support, and meaningful human connection.

Each Tele-Friend partnership typically meets weekly over a period of 3–4 months.

To get started, participants are invited to complete a short questionnaire, which helps program coordinators thoughtfully match each person with a student volunteer based on interests and preferences. Once a match is made, participants are contacted directly with details about their Tele-Friend partner and information about their first scheduled call. The program creates a simple but powerful bridge between generations—supporting well-being, reducing loneliness, and fostering connection through consistent, caring communication.
